What is Resiliency?

Interior Architecture + Design undergraduate program
This course examines the development and impact of resiliency as it relates to a community’s ability to predict, react and adapt to unanticipated factors.  Students gain factual knowledge about the strategies and tools required for implementing resiliency with a focus on historical built environments and business continuity planning.  Students analyze and observe various resilient approaches used across the globe and explore these important cultural and geographical differences through international travel.

For the spring 2016 semester we are focusing on Boston and Barcelona.  Mount Ida College is located in Newton MA and travel to Barcelona will occur in May 2016.

Seeing Park Guell in person was an amazing experience, much like seeing the rest of Gaudi's work while we were in Spain. The park was much bigger than I had expected; not only was there the public square and the column forest and everything else that I had found in my research, there was paths all the way around that went around the park for several miles. Most of these paths led to either and exit or a high point in the park that supplied an amazing panoramic view over Barcelona. All of Gaudi's work was amazing but park Guell stood out from the work because it is not a building; it was cool to see a park turned into a vibrant architectural structure with all the natural and organic forms and elements that Gaudi was known for amidst actual natural and organic elements.
