What is Resiliency?

Interior Architecture + Design undergraduate program
This course examines the development and impact of resiliency as it relates to a community’s ability to predict, react and adapt to unanticipated factors.  Students gain factual knowledge about the strategies and tools required for implementing resiliency with a focus on historical built environments and business continuity planning.  Students analyze and observe various resilient approaches used across the globe and explore these important cultural and geographical differences through international travel.

For the spring 2016 semester we are focusing on Boston and Barcelona.  Mount Ida College is located in Newton MA and travel to Barcelona will occur in May 2016.

Sagrada Familia

The Sagrada Familia was designed by the famous Antonio Gaudi. It was not finished when he died so interpretations have been made and new design teams have taken on the responsibility for finishing it.  It will hopefully be done in its entirety in 2026. The facade is quite different from the interior, but the design that struck me the most was the light that shined through the stained glass windows in the interior. Walking into the building felt airy and light and when I looked to the left with the large stained glass windows I was stunned by the gradation of the light shining through and onto the ceiling and columns. It was incredible to walk in, look up, and see the beauty of space and the colors it created.
